37 Colleges in Tamil Nadus list of the Top 100 Colleges



Bishop Heber College, Tiruchirapalli is in the fourth position while the Women's Christian College in Chennai is in the 10th position.

Colleges in Chennai include Etraj College (16th), SIET Girls College (47th), Sankarlal Sundarbhai Shasan Jain College (59th) and Meenakshi Women's College (59th).

Similarly, in the top 100 colleges for engineering courses in the country, there are 33 colleges in Tamil Nadu. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai, tops the list.

Out of the fifty best management courses in India, 6 are in Tamil Nadu. The Indian Administrative Council (IIM-D) in Trichy is ranked 13th.

According to the Ministry of Human Resources Development, one in four of the top 100 universities in the country, 26 out of 100, are in Tamil Nadu. Anna University ranks 6th on this list.

"It's not a complete rank list," says Pon, editor of the journal Education. Tanacekaran. "Only colleges that apply to this rankings are taken into consideration. On closer inspection, we can see that there are only a handful of central government-funded colleges and privately-funded private colleges. Dhanasekaran points out that Chennai's Anna University, which ranks high on many of these lists, has been running for two years without a Vice Chancellor.

"So how can this be said to be one of the best universities?" He says.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework, which operates under the Ministry of Human Resources, has published a similar list from 2016. Colleges provide the data for this system.
